S235JR carbon steel plate specifications

S235JR is a non-alloy structural steel grade specified in EN 10025-2, supplied as hot-rolled plate with a minimum yield strength of 235 MPa and tensile strength of 360–510 MPa. The “JR” suffix means the material is impact-tested at +20 °C with a minimum absorbed energy of 27 J, which makes it suitable for general structural and mechanical service at normal ambient temperatures. Our S235JR plate is supplied hot-rolled, normalized or controlled-rolled, and can be delivered cut to size, shot blasted, primed, galvanized or fully fabricated to your drawings. It is equivalent to Q235B (GB), SS400 (JIS), ST37-2 (DIN) and ASTM A283 Grade C, so it can substitute for those grades in most structural applications.

1) One Grade, Every Size You Need S235JR plate from 1.5 mm to 300 mm thick, cut to your exact width and length. Whether you need a full 2000 × 6000 mm sheet or 500 pieces of 380 × 240 mm, we deliver finished parts, not just coil and plate stock.

2) Fully Documented Quality Mill test certificate to EN 10204 3.1 issued with every lot, traceable by heat number. Third-party inspection (SGS / BV / TÜV) and customer-nominated inspectors are welcome before shipment.

3) Weldable, Formable, Predictable Low-carbon non-alloy structural steel with C ≤ 0.17% — excellent weldability without preheating, good cold bending and easy machining, with a stable yield strength of 235 MPa up to 16 mm thickness.

4) Value-Added Processing in One Place In-house laser / plasma / flame cutting, drilling, bending, bevelling, shot blasting to Sa2.5, priming, galvanizing and custom marking — so your plate arrives ready for assembly, cutting your own shop time and scrap rate.

Quality Control

• Incoming material: Heat number recorded and verified against the mill certificate before processing; spectral analysis on request.
• Chemical composition: Checked against the S235JR limits of EN 10025-2 (C ≤ 0.17%, Mn ≤ 1.40%, P/S ≤ 0.035%).
• Mechanical testing: Tensile test (yield, tensile, elongation) and Charpy V-notch impact test at +20 °C (min. 27 J) by lot.
• Dimension & tolerance: Thickness, width, length, camber, squareness and flatness inspected to EN 10029.
• Surface: Rolled-in scale, seams, cracks, lamination and edge condition checked by visual and, where required, ultrasonic inspection.
• Fabrication check (custom parts): Hole position, hole diameter, bend angle, bevel geometry and part marking verified against the drawing before packing.
• Coating check: Blasting grade (Sa2.5), coating thickness and zinc coating weight verified for coated products.
• Documentation: EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificate per lot; third-party inspection (SGS / BV / TÜV) and customer-nominated inspection accepted.
• Before shipment: Quantity, part number, marking and packing list checked item by item.

Packaging & Shipping

• Standard packing: Plates bundled with galvanized steel strips, edges protected, waterproof paper or plastic film wrap to prevent rust during ocean transit.
• Bundles: Rectangular bundles stacked on wooden or steel pallets; each bundle tagged with grade, size, heat number, quantity and destination.
• Custom parts: Small cut-to-size pieces are palletized, strapped and where necessary crated or placed in wooden cases to prevent damage and loss.
• FCL shipments: Bundles loaded directly into 20GP / 40GP containers; an anti-slip and weight-balanced loading plan is prepared before booking.
• LCL shipments: Bundles on pallets, wrapped and strapped for consolidated cargo.
• Loading capacity: Approximately 28 tons per 20GP and 28 tons per 40GP, depending on plate size, thickness and stowage plan — confirmed per order before booking.
• Port of loading: Tianjin port or as required
• Documents: Commercial invoice, packing list, Bill of Lading, Mill Test Certificate, Certificate of Origin and other certificates as required.
